Where are you Sarah?

It’s been a LONG time since I wrote about where I am, and in that time a lot has happened. I have had a lot of wonderful moments, but also some lower moments . Here is a little summary of where I have spent my time in Australia so far:

November 27 – January 4 – Sydney

I started off my trip in Australia as I feel everyone should – with a hug and a McDonalds (I do talk about McDonalds a lot…). I stayed a week in Maze Backpackers, but to save money over the Christmas and New Year period (hotel/hostel prices are astronomical), I moved into a house share close to Kings Cross. The highlight of my time in Sydney was bringing in the new year on a boat just in front of the Harbour Bridge. It was a very special moment. Alas, it was time to move on.

January 4 – April 11 – Griffith, New South Wales

David got a job working for a winery in Griffith, so I decided at the last minute that I would join him. I worked on an almond farm as a general farm hand for most of the time I was here – which I thoroughly enjoyed (mostly because I spent all day on a quad). We stayed at The Globe Backpackers, a working hostel where I got my job. I stayed the length of time to get my 88 days of regional work signed off so I will have the option of a second year visa.

April 11 – April 16 – Castle Hill, Sydney

It feels like hostel prices have risen since I last stayed in Sydney, so I wanted to get the most for my money. I found a lovely home on Airbnb in North Sydney and I am writing this on their porch while I am listening to the birds around me. I could stay here a lot longer but it is soon time to move on…

April 16 onwards – South East Asia

I am incredibly excited to finally travel to South East Asia. I fly to Singapore on Thursday for three nights and cross the Malaysian border to Johor Bahru. I then fly to Kota Kinabalu in Malaysian Borneo. This is primarily to climb Mount Kinabulu. Right now, I don’t feel prepared or fit enough to climb but I am looking forward to the adventure. Aside from that, I have no idea what my south east Asia adventure will hold, and that’s the way I want it to be!

How spontaneous are you when you travel? Do you go with the flow, have a fixed itinerary  or are you somewhere in between?
